Tom founded M&C Saatchi Australia, the network's first Asia Pacific office, in May 1995 and went on to establish M&C Saatchi in New Zealand, Asia and the US West Coast. He began his working career as a trainee at Qantas Airways in 1967. Tom completed an MBA at Stanford University in 1975 and was appointed Visiting Fellow in Marketing at Monash University in 1979 prior to joining Ansett Airlines as General Manager commercial.
On agency side Tom was a founding partner of The Campaign Palace and Managing Director of DDB Melbourne before launching M&C Saatchi, which has grown to one of Australia's largest and most successful marketing communications companies under his astute guidance. In December 2008 Tom was appointed Worldwide Chairman of M&C Saatchi's 26 global offices.
Tom is Chairman of both The Australian Cancer Research Foundation and Jetset Travelworld Limited and is a Director of the Communications Council, Queenwood School and the Dean's Advisory Council. He is a former Chairman of the Sydney Dance Company and a former Director of Sydney Attractions Group.
Tom joined M&C Saatchi as creative partner in 1996 at the behest of founding partner Tom Dery soon after the agency's launch into Australia. The pair had worked together at DDB Melbourne where Tom was Executive Creative Director.
Under his direction, M&C Saatchi has become one of the most creatively awarded agencies in Australia. BRW has repeatedly placed Tom among its Top 5 Creative Directors. His signature work has been big campaigns for big brands such as Cadbury Schweppes, Vodafone, MBF, Woolworths and ANZ. He's also known for identifying and nurturing young talent. In 2002 Tom was given regional creative responsibilities as creative director - Australia, Asia Pacific and US.
Tom still has his hands firmly on the M&C Saatchi creative tiller and remains one of the most experienced and seasoned creative directors in Australia.
