M&C Saatchi tops AFR’s Most Innovative list
M&C Saatchi Group named Australian Financial Review’s Most Innovative Company
This week, M&C Saatchi Group was named the Australian Financial Review’s Most Innovative Company. The company’s groundbreaking bush fire detection technology, NRMA Fireblanket, was also awarded the Best Product Innovation and the Best Overall Innovation.
M&C Saatchi beat out more than 1,000 of Australia and New Zealand’s leading companies – from consultancies, banks to telcos – to take out the top spot. Now in its sixth year, the list is determined by a panel of industry leaders, compiled by innovation consultancy Inventium.
CEO Jaimes Leggett said: “We’re honoured to be named the most innovative company in Australia. To be ranked alongside those disrupting markets, building products and changing the world is humbling. It’s a great accolade for all in the industry and an important marker of the value we bring to clients. Every business in every market is being disrupted. Creativity as a means of driving business transformation is profound, and Australia needs it more now than ever.”
The AFR defines innovation as ‘change that adds value’. Companies are put through a robust assessment that includes a written submission, an employee survey and demonstration of at least two innovations implemented in the last year.
The innovation that stood out for judges was NRMA Fireblanket – an early bushfire warning detection system designed to prevent and minimize the destruction of bushfires in high-risk communities. The project was driven by the client and with a collaboration between the M&C Saatchi Group and leading scientific organisation Data61, a division of CSIRO.
Last year saw the company place sixth, as well as being the most highly ranked communications organisation in the List. One of the company’s biggest clients, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, has also been ranked eleventh.
